Job Summary:
The Billing Supervisor in a hospital oversees the billing operations to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant processing of patient invoices and insurance claims.
They manage a team of billing staff, coordinate with various departments, and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and policies.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Billing Process Management:
• Supervise and coordinate the preparation and submission of patient bills.
• Ensure accuracy in medical coding and billing practices.
• Monitor and resolve billing discrepancies and denials.
2. Insurance & Claims Handling:
• Oversee insurance verification and claim submission processes.
• Address rejected or denied insurance claims by working with insurance providers.
• Ensure compliance with insurance policies and hospital regulations.
3. Revenue Cycle Management:
• Track outstanding payments and follow up on overdue accounts.
• Work with the finance department to improve cash flow and reduce bad debts.
• Implement strategies to maximize hospital revenue collection.
4. Team Supervision & Training:
• Manage a team of billing clerks, assign tasks, and ensure productivity.
• Provide training on updated billing policies and regulations.
• Conduct performance reviews and address staff concerns.
5. Regulatory Compliance & Audits:
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, insurance guidelines, and government regulations.
• Maintain patient confidentiality (HIPAA compliance or local equivalent).
• Assist in internal and external audits related to billing and financial records.
6. Coordination & Reporting:
• Liaise with the finance, medical, and administrative departments to resolve billing issues.
• Prepare reports on billing activities, outstanding payments, and revenue performance.
• Recommend process improvements to enhance billing efficiency.
Qualifications & Skills:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
• Experience: 3–5 years of experience in hospital billing, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory role.
• Technical Skills:
• Knowledge of hospital billing systems and medical coding (ICD-10, CPT).
• Familiarity with insurance claim processing and revenue cycle management.
• Proficiency in billing software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Soft Skills:
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
