Description
Accountant responsibilities include managing financial records, preparing financial statements, and ensuring tax compliance. They also analyze financial data to provide insights, manage budgets, and advise on financial strategy, cost reduction, and risk management. Key duties also involve auditing, reconciling accounts, and maintaining internal controls to prevent fraud.
Financial and accounting management
Record-keeping: Maintain accurate and complete financial records, including general ledgers and subsidiary accounts.
Bookkeeping: Handle day-to-day financial transactions, such as processing invoices, managing accounts payable and receivable, and reconciling bank statements.
Budgeting: Manage and monitor financial systems and budgets.
Financial statements: Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Payroll: Calculate payroll, manage benefits, and ensure all deductions and payments are processed accurately and on time.
Tax and compliance
Tax preparation: Compute taxes owed and prepare and file tax returns.
Tax planning: Advise on tax strategies to ensure legal compliance and minimize tax liability.
Compliance: Ensure all financial activities comply with laws, regulations, and accounting standards.
Analysis and strategic advising
Financial analysis: Analyze accounting data to identify trends and variances, and interpret financial statements to provide insights.
Risk management: Assess financial operations, identify risks, and recommend improvements to systems and controls.
Strategic advice: Advise management on financial decisions, such as capital spending, new investments, cost reduction, and revenue enhancement.
Forensic accounting: Investigate financial data to detect and prevent fraud.
Audit and internal controls
Auditing: Conduct internal audits to check financial information and systems for accuracy and efficiency.
External liaison: Liaise with external auditors and deal with any identified irregularities.
Internal controls: Review and document internal control procedures to identify and address weaknesses or risks.
