Description
The Joinery Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates for joinery projects, including woodwork, cabinetry, and other custom joinery products.
This role requires working closely with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure that projects are completed within budget and to specification.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation: Calculate the costs of materials, labor, and other associated expenses for joinery projects.
Reading and Analyzing Plans: Review and interpret architectural and engineering drawings to understand the scope and requirements of the project.
Material Sourcing: Identify and source appropriate materials, hardware, and finishes for each project.
Project Management: Work closely with project managers and the production team to ensure that the estimated costs align with project timelines and expectations.
Supplier Liaison: Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to negotiate prices and ensure timely delivery of materials.
Quote Generation: Prepare and issue detailed quotations and tender documents for clients.
Budget Control: Monitor and update project costs to ensure they stay within budget.
Client Communication: Provide clients with accurate cost estimates, timelines, and any other relevant information.
Site Visits: Attend site meetings or visit the location to assess existing conditions and finalize estimates.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of estimates, project correspondence, and budgets for each job.
Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks that may affect project costs and suggest mitigation strategies.
Market Research: Stay updated on industry trends, material costs, and new techniques.
Skills and Qualifications:
Educational Requirements: A degree or diploma in construction management, quantity surveying, or a related field. Alternatively, practical experience in joinery, carpentry, or a similar trade may be acceptable.
Experience: Proven experience as a joinery estimator or in a similar estimating or construction-related role.
Technical Skills: Strong understanding of joinery techniques, materials, and construction processes.
Software Proficiency: Experience using estimating software, CAD programs, or other construction management tools (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend, or similar).
Attention to Detail: Ability to identify potential issues or discrepancies in project plans and estimates.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for client and supplier interactions.
Problem-Solving Abilities: Capable of finding solutions to challenges that arise during the estimating process.
Time Management: Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
