Description
Job Purpose
The lifting supervisor is responsible for planning, supervising, and ensuring the safe execution of lifting operations. The role focuses on safety, compliance, and coordination of people and equipment involved in lifting activities.
Key Responsibilities Planning & Preparation Prepare and review lifting plans and method statements
Select appropriate lifting equipment (cranes, hoists, slings, shackles)
Assess load weight, size, center of gravity, and lifting method
Conduct risk assessments before lifting operations Supervision & Execution Supervise lifting operations on site
Ensure lifts are carried out according to the approved lift plan
Coordinate with crane operators, riggers, and signalers
Stop lifting operations if unsafe conditions ariseSafety & ComplianceEnsure compliance with health and safety regulations
Check lifting equipment certifications and inspections
Enforce use of PPE (helmets, gloves, safety boots, etc.)
Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefingsCommunication & CoordinationAct as the main point of contact during lifting activities
Communicate clearly using hand signals or radios
Liaise with site managers, engineers, and safety officersReporting & DocumentationMaintain lifting operation records
Report incidents, near misses, or equipment defects
Ensure documentation is completed and stored correctlyRequired Skills & CompetenciesStrong knowledge of lifting operations and safety procedures
Ability to read lift plans and technical drawings
Good leadership and communication skills
Risk assessment and problem-solving abilities
Attention to detail and decision-making under pressureQualifications & TrainingCertified Lifting Supervisor training (country-specific)
Knowledge of local lifting and safety regulations
Experience in construction, oil & gas, manufacturing, or logistics
First-aid or safety training (preferred)Working ConditionsConstruction or industrial site environment
Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
May require night shifts or weekend work
