Description
The Construction Purchasing Officer is responsible for procuring materials, equipment, and subcontractor services required for construction projects. The role ensures timely delivery, cost efficiency, quality compliance, and proper coordination with project, site, and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Material & Equipment Procurement
Source and procure construction materials such as cement, steel, aggregates, MEP materials, tools, and equipment.
Verify material specifications as per project drawings, BOQ, and consultant requirements.
Obtain multiple quotations and prepare price comparisons to support decision-making.
Ensure timely delivery of materials to project sites to avoid delays.
Vendor & Subcontractor Management
Identify, evaluate, and maintain a reliable vendor/subcontractor database.
Negotiate contracts, pricing, and delivery terms with suppliers.
Monitor vendor performance, quality, and service reliability.
Documentation & Compliance
Prepare and process Purchase Requests (PR), Purchase Orders (PO), LPOs, and agreements.
Ensure compliance with company procurement policies, safety standards, and project specifications.
Maintain accurate purchasing records, invoices, and delivery documents for audits.
Coordination & Communication
Coordinate closely with Site Engineers, Project Managers, QS, and Stores for requirements.
Follow up with suppliers for delivery, shortage issues, and replacements.
Resolve discrepancies between site requirements and supplier deliveries.
Cost Control & Analysis
Conduct market research to track price fluctuations of construction materials.
Support budgeting and cost estimation teams with material price data.
Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
