Description
The Ship Agent acts as a critical liaison between the ship's crew and the various local entities at port. This includes coordinating with port authorities, organizing necessary supplies, and handling essential documentation. The role is pivotal in ensuring efficient turnaround times for vessels at port, facilitating seamless operations that encompass logistics, customs clearance, and compliance with local and international maritime regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Communicate effectively with the ship’s captain, crew members, and local service providers, ensuring all parties are informed of arrival schedules, delays, and requirements.
• Arrange for pilot and tug services to facilitate the safe docking and undocking of ships.
• Coordinate the timely loading and unloading of cargo to prevent any delays.
• Manage customs documentation and ensure compliance with all local, national, and international laws regarding cargo handling and crew welfare.
• Provide logistical support to the crew, including arranging transport, accommodation, medical care, and other essential services.
• Maintain detailed records of operations, transactions, and communications for accountability and to provide reports to the shipping company.
Education and Certification Requirements :
• Minimum of a high school diploma, although a bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Business Administration, or related fields is highly preferred.
• Relevant certifications in shipping, logistics, or port management provide a competitive edge.
• Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory.
• Knowledge of maritime laws, customs regulations, and environmental policies is essential.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to handle stressful situations
