Description
Job Summary:
The Environmental Manager is responsible for managing environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives, environmental risk and pollution-control activities across construction, infrastructure, industrial, or facilities management projects.
The role ensures compliance with applicable Saudi environmental regulations, project requirements, and client standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop, implement, and maintain the Project Environmental Management Plan (EMP).
• Ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, permits and client requirements.
• Monitor environmental performance, including waste, emissions, wastewater, noise, dust and hazardous materials.
• Conduct regular environmental inspections, audits and risk assessments.
• Identify environmental risks and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Manage solid waste, hazardous waste, recycling and disposal activities.
• Monitor air quality, water quality, noise, soil contamination and other environmental parameters as required.
• Ensure proper storage, handling, transportation and disposal of hazardous substances.
• Investigate environmental incidents, spills, complaints and non-conformities and prepare reports.
• Coordinate environmental monitoring and testing with approved laboratories and specialist consultants.
• Prepare environmental reports, inspection records, registers and compliance documentation.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, regulatory authorities, subcontractors and project management teams.
• Conduct environmental awareness training and toolbox talks for employees and subcontractors.
• Promote sustainable construction and resource-efficiency practices.
• Review subcontractors' environmental plans and ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Support emergency preparedness and response for environmental incidents.
• Track environmental KPIs and recommend continual improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Management or a related discipline.
• Typically 7–10 years of relevant environmental experience, preferably in construction, infrastructure, industrial or large FM projects.
• Experience in environmental compliance and management systems.
• Knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
• Familiarity with Saudi environmental regulations and applicable National Centre for Environmental Compliance (NCEC) requirements is highly desirable.
• Relevant professional certifications such as ISO 14001 Lead Auditor/Lead Implementer are preferred.
